Beaker I believe the combustion of the propane directly propels the ball (as in no piston). I could be wrong but that was the answer I got when I asked Tippmann. Either way, I think the idea of a propane-powered marker is the stupidest yet developed. Last I checked, propane is FLAMMABLE and where do woodsball games take place!? In the WOODS where there are flammable materials. As safe as the C3 supposedly is, what's gonna happen when (dare I say it) a spark plug malfunctions or a player custom-mods his C3 and a component isn't installed correctly? No way is the C3 a good idea!!

Yea that whole lighter thing wont work cause the exhaust comes out and 2nd semi or full auto wld jsut become a red hot glowing peice of metal check out the tippmann forums they have a thing on it

this is a old post so i am going to guess you already figured out how it works. the air is still pushing the paintball out of the barrel. the propane ignites and expands pushing the paintball out. the bolt doesn't move at all when firing. this also ruins the "put a lighter at the end of the barrel" becuase the propane has already been burnt out. and there is no way to not ignite the propane and still have it come out the front of the barrel because when you cock it back it expells any remaining gases out the exhaust in the back...
maybe i will take out the c-3 for twc. but i just got a sl-68 so i might go old school.LOL see ya at twc

I admire tippmann for making a gun that is this innovative its a one of a kind gun! but i wouldnt buy it i like my 98 to much....

Holy old thread!! I never did get around to trying a C3, however i did meet someone on the feild using one. If my memory serves me right, agent smith was there as well, but anyways the guy said it was pretty accurate, but a pain in the butt because sometimes he would have to pump it twice. Dont quote me on this though.

went to the feb walk on and my tippmann 98 was firing great
but today when checking it out it was leaking air and it sounded like it was coming from the gun and not the bottle....
what is the most likly thing wrong??????
