Any paint on the shield will not count as a hit, but the referee will keep his eye out for hits and splatter, just like normal. If the shield gets coated and the splatter gets all over the player, then it will get the player out, just like an other bunker.

i have a few quick and easy suggestion, the spartans are going to need a shield washing tub.... i think these shields wont be dripping but before each insert why not whipe off any sticky crap... its not because the shields will be dripping right away but if not cleaned at all throughout play we can only immagine what their shields will look like at lunch....

Just a suggestion for the shields, build rectangular shields because in this case they will be much more effective than round ones because the corners the rectangle have can cover you better. And if you construct a rectangular shield (especially metal shields) be sure to either bend the corners back or file/grind/sand them down because they are a major safety concern (once again, especially metal shields). If your teem is has a number of similar shields (preferably rectangle) then it is possible to form a phalanx formation and you will be near impenetrable. For any metal shields, be sure to have some kind of padding between you and the shield, or at least make it so you're not in direct contact with it because the energy transferred through the shield from the paintball can still hurt you. And a wood shield is not generally suggested because the wood is usually either to thin or to heavy. Take yore time and plan your shield before you construct it to save time and money while still having a good shield
I have personally made shields for paintball and know that those ideas are not just guesses or giberish.

Ha! Krom laughs at your puny shield.
How can the energy possibly be any worse than any other paintball day?

It's not that it's worse than a regular paintball, its just really unexpected at first and your hand is usually what will feel it (I usually don't wear gloves) but if you wear gloves you shouldn't have much of a problem.
